THE PROSPECTIVE WORK OF CHRIST

(SERIES: THE THREEFOLD WORK OF CHIRST)

HIS PRINCELY OFFICE

Ps. 2:6-12; Isa. 9:6-7; Mt. 6:10; Lk.1:31-33

Introduction: Through both Testaments of the Holy Scriptures we are taught that Christ will rule the earth from Jerusalem in Israel. The connection between the anointing given to old covenant prophets, priests, and kings and the meaning of the title Christ as “anointed one” explains why we commonly emphasize Jesus’ threefold office as Prophet, Priest, and King. Moreover, the New Testament often describes Jesus in terms of these offices. As the incarnate Word of God, Jesus is far better than any prophet who came before Him because He is the fullest revelation of God to humanity (John 1:1–18). Jesus is the perfect sacrifice for sin, making His priestly work effectual for salvation (Heb. 10:1–18). He is also the Lord of glory— the divine King of creation and ultimate expression of what kingly rule should be 1 Cor. 2:8).

Our beginning passage describes Christ’s threefold office. In these last days, Jesus is the Prophet of God, the Son through whom our Creator speaks in the Apostolic words of the New Testament Heb. 1:1–2). Jesus is the final Priest of God because He made the final sacrifice for sin and, having finished His work, sat down, never to offer sacrifices again (vv. 3–4). Finally, Jesus is the King par excellence, for as King He has created a kingdom, inherited a universal reign as His Father’s heir, and rules creation from God’s right hand (vv. 1–4).

Christ Jesus is worthy of our highest allegiance because of all that He does for us. As our Prophet, He guides us in the paths of righteousness through His word. As our Priest, He guarantees the salvation of those who trust Him through His atonement and intercession. As our King, He leads us to final victory over sin, Satan, and death. Let us worship our Lord and Saviour, for He has provided all that we will ever need.

REASONS FOR THE MILLENNIUM

(Revelation 20:4-6)

Introduction: Christ Will Receive A Kingdom

Christ Will Rule A Kingdom

Christ Will Reign In A Kingdom

Eze. 48:35 “The LORD is there.”

I. THREE PERSPECTIVES ON THE MILLENNIUM     The What?

‘Joy To The World’ (Song)

  1. Amillennial View: Major characteristic: Spiritualize and Symbolize the Word. (Spiritual Approach)
  2. Post-Millennial View: Major characteristic: Save the Sinful World. (Convert-Saving Approach)
  3. Pre-Millennial View: Major Characteristic: Strict and Straight View of the Word. (Literal-Scriptural Approach)

II. FOUR PURPOSES OF THE MILLENNIUM    The Why?

  1. Reward People of God: (Reign & Rule) Isa. 40:10; Mtt. 16:27; 25:34; Col. 3:24; Rev. 22:12.
    1. Past/Present Believers Rewarded At The Rapture Of The Christian In The Air
    2. Prospective Believers Rewarded During The Reign Of The Christ On The Earth 1 Thess. 3:13; 1 Cor. 6:2; Rev. 20:4; 1 Cor. 3:8-15; Lk. 14:14)
      1. Parable of Talents: Mtt. 25:23
      2. Increased Opportunities

        More Responsibilities

        Greater Abilities & Resources

      3. Prepared Believers Rewarding Evil Doers And Reign With Christ In The Millennium. (Dakes Annotated Bible p. 1061 [OT] 7 Duties of Saints) (Ps. 72:4; 2:9; 37:1-2, 9-10, 20; Pro. 2:22; Isa. 60:12; Pro.20:8, 26 [Exam. Ezra 6:11-12; 7:25-26; Neh. 5:1-13; 13:15-21;] Christ’s governors with authority. Rev. 2:27; 12:5; Zech. 14:16-19; 13:2-3; Ps. 149:5-9; Isa. 29:20- 21; Ps. 149:5-9; Isa. 29:20-21; Ps. 10:15-18; Mtt. 5:21-22, 25-26; Isa. 66:24; Eccl. 8:11. True now-not then. Lev. 24:11-23. Num. 16-Korah, Josh. 7- Achan. No getting around the law by frivolous lawsuits, tricky lawyers. No incompetent or insanity plea or minor technicalities or briberies. No getting off for good behavior either. Swift/final no deals. Lk. 14:14; Mtt.25:21, 23, 34; Lk. 19:17, 19, 27; Rev.19:10; 22:8-9; Rom. 8:17; 2 Tim. 2:12.
  2. Respond To The Prophets Predictions: Ps. 72:11; Isa. 9:7; 60:21; Zech. 9:10; Lk. 1:31-33; Acts 1:6.
  3. Receive The Answer To The Disciples’ Prayer: Mtt. 6:9-10
  4. Reemphasize Man’s Depravity & The Necessity of Christ’s Death:
  5. Satan Judged And Jailed
At the end of the 1,000 yrs. Satan will be loosed & leads a revolt and surrounds the city. Also, the problem is not environmental inequality which will be evident. Sin began in a perfect environment, the Garden of Eden. In the millennium after the only perfect ruler reigns men still will revolt.
    Jeremiah 20:9. Man’s sinful.
